CONVOY

BATTLE OF THE NORTH ATLANTIC

September 1942. A convoy of 25 American Liberty ships steams from Halifax to Liverpool, loaded with vital war materiel. Lurking beneath the gray Atlantic swells, a wolfpack of German U-boats stalks the merchant fleet. As commander of an escort destroyer, you must guide the convoy through days and nights of submarine warfare. Hunt the U-boats. Save the ships.

VICTORY

The real story: The Battle of the Atlantic raged from 1939 to 1945. Allied convoys lost more than 3,500 merchant ships and 175 warships. But the U-boat fleet lost 783 submarines and 30,000 of 39,000 sailors โ€” the highest casualty rate of any service in WWII.

The SS Jeremiah O'Brien โ€” the ship you're sleeping on tonight โ€” was a Liberty ship just like those in this convoy. Built in 1943, she crossed the Atlantic, supported the D-Day landings at Normandy, and survived the war. She's one of only two operational Liberty ships left in the world, and she lives right here at Pier 45, San Francisco. Sweet dreams, Scouts. โš“
